Strategic Approach for Academic Success
The Youth & Family Club professionals are informal educators and strive to ensure that all Club youth, through their experiences at school and with the Club, are able to make good post-secondary education decisions. The vision identifies key objectives and strategies for working with members ages 6 to 12 and 13 to 18. The Youth and Family Club help local Clubs combat problems that contribute to low high school graduation rates by implementing localized activities and strategies with rigor, emphasizing more intentional integration of programs across core program areas and conducting and sharing findings of evaluation efforts.
Homework Help: Tutoring
A comprehensive homework help and tutoring program, POWER HOUR is designed to raise the academic proficiencies of Club members ages 6 to 17. This program utilizes volunteers from Cal Poly Pomona, University of La Verne, Cal State Fullerton, and other local universities to provide homework help and tutoring to Club members.
The goal of the College Bound program is to increase the number of Pomona area HS students who will move through & beyond high school, thereby making them eligible for graduation, higher education and financial aid from the UC, CSU, CC as well as private university/college systems. Our Mission is to give students more confidence in themselves and in life choices.
The Youth & Family Club of Pomona Valley College Bound supports and augments the efforts rendered in HS from the counselors and college/career centers. Opportunities which can be lost in larger environments are more accessible in the small group..
