Discovery Camp is an instructional collaboration between the Pomona Unified School District, dA Center for the Arts, AMOCA, and The Club which will serve Pomona students in grades 5-8.  Students will be allowed to sign up for one week. Cost to PUSD students is free.

Course offerings:

1.   Arts - theDA - Discovery Camp students will explore and  learn the process for creating art to make buttons, stickers, silk screen tee shirts, and zines while learning about murals in Pomona. Drawing, painting, and printmaking. Students will experiment with art materials, build new skills, discover murals in Pomona  and launch their imagination in fun classes led by The dA Center for the Arts’  team of creative and professional teaching artists.

2.   Clay Ceramics - AMOCA - The American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA) will offer clay activities led by our teaching artists. Students will explore the theme of “Characters and Stories”as they sculpt their own imaginary beings to life! They will learn clay building techniques, explore surface decoration, and complete several projects throughout the week-long program. Students and their families will also receive a free admission voucher to AMOCA to visit our current exhibitions.

3.   Sports and Recreation - The Club  - Students will have an opportunity to participate in team sports and play games..

4.   Robotics - PUSD - Students will utilize Lego Robotics curriculum units that are designed around playful narrative-based themes. Students will be exposed to real-world problem-solving and engineering concepts.

5.   Hip Hop Dance - The Club - Students will learn the basic footwork and practice a routine to perform.

Module 2: July 17 – July 21 - Cortez Elementary School

Module 3: July 24 – July 28 - Simons Middle School

Module 4: July 31 – August 5 - San Jose Elementary School
