Be a Mentor

The Boys and Girls Club of Pomona Valley is partnering with the City of Pomona to provide 1-on-1 mentoring to local students who need help. Many students can be the first in their family to go to college, but face challenges such as unfamiliarity with the requirements or a lack of role models who encourage educational success. Without someone to teach them the importance of a college education, these bright students may not realize their goals until it is too late. By attending a college or university, you have already achieved what is difficult for so many students today. Pass on that experience and be a mentor! The CollegeBound Mentoring program will guide high school students to prepare them for college. 1 hour a week can make a difference!

  • Spend a total of 24 hours over six months of 1-on-1 time with two students

    • Explore their vision for their future
    • Address and prepare for the challenges that come with being a first generation college student
  • Attend short monthly feedback meetings
